Benchmarking

Do you know how fast your current system really is? Does it seem OK when you run it on your local machine, but then seems to be slow when it's under load?

I can provide neutral third-party benchmarks of either the hardware or software aspects of your site.

The benchmarks can include:

• Web site load and performance testing
• Database load and performance testing
• Single or multiple pages
• Document the effects of planned changes, such as caching or threading
• Comparison of one vendor's hardware or software technology to another's
• Identify which parts of your site are slow

I generally use either Visual Studio Team Test or Microsoft's WCAT tool for web-oriented benchmarking. Custom code (in C#) may be advisable in some cases.

The deliverables for a benchmarking engagement normally consist of code and/or configuration files, a report, and sometimes a demonstration. I can deliver the report in written form or by teleconference, or both.
