Rates and Staffing

The information below is for rough informational purposes only, and is subject to change.

I am the Principal Architect, and do all work myself, unless explicitly stated otherwise in your quote.

My rates are not 100% fixed; they vary somewhat depending on the nature of the work. I charge less for work that I enjoy, and more for work I find unpleasant. I charge more for work that has tight scheduling or poorly defined deliverables, and less for work that can be delivered more casually over a period of time. I charge more for short-term contracts and less for long-term arrangements. I charge less on retainer than on a per-project basis.

I also don't provide a quote for every request I receive. I am reasonably choosy about the work I accept. If I feel that my skills aren't a good match for your needs, or if the work is something that I have no interest in, then I will decline your request.

I live in Nelson, on the beautiful north coast of the south island of New Zealand. I bill travel at cost plus 10%, with business class airfare and accomodations. To cover my travel time, I bill at 50% of the contract hourly rate for each direction (one-way travel time to North America is roughly 20 hours).

Audio or video conferencing is a much greener and much more cost effective way to meet, when possible. I support Skype or Windows Live (MSN) for one-on-one video conferencing, and Live Meeting or WebEx for group meetings, desktop sharing or PowerPoint. I bill teleconference fees (if any) at cost plus 10%.

Please see the contact page for my contact details.
